RustyPics2021 Photo Competition

As rust-geeks one of our shared interests in life is taking a good old photo of corrosion. You know what I’m talking about, it’s when you’re on a holiday in Paris and you’re holding up your travel companions trying to assess and document the quality of the coating on the Eiffel tower. Or it’s when you can’t help but take a photo on that stroll along the beach where you notice someone has used galvanised bolts to hold down a stainless steel structure (who still does this?!). If this sounds like you, the ACA VIC Branch is excited to invite you to enter our RustyPics2021 Photo Competition! This is your chance to share your most prized corrosion photos. What will yours be? Is there a picture you’ve taken that springs to mind straight away? Rustle it up and submit now!

VALE: Andreas Michael Herbert Gabriel

It is with great sadness that we record the sudden passing of Andreas Gabriel on the 10th August 2021, at the age of 51. Andreas was an active member of The ACA over the years. He served ACA NZ Branch in several senior roles including Auckland Division Chairman (2008-2009) and NZ Branch President (2010-2013). Andreas was highly respected for his contributions to the corrosion control community throughout NZ. The ACA extends its deepest sympathies to the Gabriel family. We encourage anyone who is able to contribute to the givealittle campaign set up by Andreas's Colleagues at NZ Corrosion Services Ltd to assist Andreas's family during this time.

Corrosion and Prevention 2021 Update

Throughout the 2021 year, the ACA has maintained an active risk management approach for dealing with the impacts of Covid-19, particularly with respect to Corrosion & Prevention 2021. The ACA has prepared several contingency plans for various scenarios. Our aim remains to deliver this year’s conference in person to provide maximum value to all delegates, presenters, exhibitors and sponsors. However, with the current evolving Covid situation in Australia, we are exploring several alternate scheduling and delivery options. This issue has the team's full attention, and a detailed update will be provided by early September.

New Volunteering Opportunities

Our Association owes a great deal of its success to the great work done by over 100 volunteers at any given time. Joining one of our committees is a fantastic way to make deep ties and enact positive change across our Association. We're currently seeking to expand the membership on a range of committees including ACA Board Subcommittees, The ACA Foundation and the Young Corrosion Group Steering Committee. So if you're interested in any of these opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.
